Here's a picture of York's main river, the Ouse, in flood. It does this fairly often, and the Kings Arms is often one of the buildings to suffer. Pity - it's a good pub.
York's full of interesting history and buildings, and it's easy to find out about them, so I won't go on about all that now. But I lived here from 1984-88 very happily, getting my PhD on The Faerie Queene and a degree in computing (great combo!). For two years I shared a house that had been York's first methodist manse. John Wesley was said to have stayed there on several occasions, and I suspect that the ghostly breathing I sometimes heard just after putting the light out belonged to him. It was either that or the mice.
