I've lived in Bristol since 1990, and it's the biggest city I've actually managed to feel comfortable in - partly because it's really a series of self-contained villages, each with its own character. I've lived in various parts, but right now we're living near the Gloucester Road, one of the best shopping streets in Britain, where you can buy everything from lard to laughing gas. (Did you know that Bristol was the first place in the world where laughing gas parties were regularly held? You can still see Humphry Davey's house in Dowry Square.)
Bristol plays a small part in Calypso Dreaming, and is also the setting - albeit unnamed, disguised, and distorted in various shocking ways - for Timon's Tide.
